Eric was a Petty Officer Electrician serving on the East Africa cruise (1956 - 1957).
During the voyage between Mombasa and Simonstown Eric died. There was no cause of death mentioned in the official notification sent to Eric's parents so the family are still unaware if the death was accidental, deliberate or as a result of illness. It has been suggested that he may have died following complications subsequent to a minor on board operation on his leg.
It is believed that Eric was buried at sea.
Information from Eric's nephew Doug Underhill.
