MARTIN (JEKYLL) HYDE'S PHOTOS

Martin, a keen hockey player, was also at HMS Ganges, Rodney division. He was there in March 1953 until April 1954. He served on Indefatigable, Pembroke, Vernon, Chelsham and Hardy before leaving the service in April 1959.  He also was a member of the HMS Ganges Association.
Thanks to Martin's wife, Anne, we now have these valuable photos of what life was like in the Andrew in the 1950s

Seattle Parade

200,000 Seattle citizens watched this parade according to local newspaper reports. The Royal Marine Band proudly lead a contingent of crew from the Superb. The British unit covered nearly half a block in the city centre.

Peter served on the 1954 AWI cruise where, in Chile, he met his future wife.  Peter also stayed on board for the 1956 - 57 Africa Cruise cruise.    His daughter, Angela, writes:

The main photo is of the wedding to my mother, although I believe his best man (pictured beside him) was his navy buddy but we have no name for him.

 

My dad met my mother in the week the HMS Superb docked in Valparaiso on 7 February 1955 and they wrote to each other for 2 years and she came over to England and remembers being very well looked after on the ship over.  They married on 3 August 1957 and had 7 children (3 boys and 4 girls).
